discarded china cups
spray paint
yarn
daffodils

40 cracked, broken and discarded china cups were sprayed black and suspended in the sanctuary of Renfield St. Stephen’s Church, Glasgow, during Holy Week.  For Easter Sunday they were transformed, resprayed orange, hung on neon orange yarn, and a daffodil flower was placed in each cup.  The work referenced the ‘cup of suffering’, one of the ways Jesus referred to his crucifixion. The installation looked at the way the china cups had gone through a series of transformations.  They were once valued, useful objects, had been scrapped, found and then repurposed as part of the installation.
