packing paper

‘Carried and Opened’ was a two-part installation made during a residency at Maryhill Parish Church, Glasgow.  Throughout Holy Week the glass brick cross on the chancel wall was filled with packing paper, while donated suitcases were layered up as a barrier between the cross and the congregation.  For Easter Sunday the installation was transformed by taking down the cases, opening and rearranging them to form a circular enclosure on the chancel. The packing paper was removed reworked into a massive ball, which was rolled out of the Church as part of the liturgical celebrations.
